Thank You Sachin

We don't see him daily in our day-to-day life. His score in a match has no impact on our earnings or our work. Students, elders, working class, men, women, aspiring workforce, accomplished leaders, celebrities, regardless of age, sex, religion, caste etc adore him. Why, why and why? It is one of those things that defies logic or rationale. The truth is that we see ourselves in Sachin. There are very few individuals like him that we relate ourselves so passionately. This is a country where we take pride in overdoing everything and so celebrating Sachin's retirement is no exception.

We cry when he leaves. We get frustrated when he fails in a match. We want him to score century in all  matches he plays. In a society that we live today, where there are no leaders to get inspiration from, scandals come from all directions almost every week, we need a relief. Sachin is the country's relief. When we have only one relief, we tend to overdo and that's ok for sometime.

Some useless critics spend hours doing the analysis whether he is a better match winner or not by making numerous comparisons. They keep arguing that he is a selfish player and many of his centuries have not helped India's cause. Then there are others who keep comparing batsmen of different eras and keep fighting who is the all time great. Hey, losers, keep doing and no one listens to you. Just remember, cricket is a team game :-(

The media goes overboard in making the retirement event of an individual player involved in a team game, the most important in our life. What is even more funnier is some so called celebrities join the bandwagon with little knowledge of the game and start glorifying the little master.

To me, Sachin stands for purity, humility and class. In the game dominated by over-glorified, over-paid and under achievers, he stands out differently. The way he carries himself is a research topic in itself. Thank you, Sachin for some great memories. You made our lives memorable. Hats off to you!!
